Women's March is a women-led movement that organises & mobilises on a diverse range of issues. It is a first stop, feminist futures, base-building network.
July is Disability Pride Month. Disability Pride is about showing the world that disabled people matter and are valued. I created a piece for my Instagram page which you can view here, to educate my followers on what I had learnt and also promoting disabled people and their stories. The piece was shared by many people, and it ended up getting featured on Women's March ; a page with 1.3million followers.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was founded in July of 1990. This document was the world’s first declaration of equality for disabled people.
In 2015, New York City Mayor de Blasio declared July Disability Pride Month in NYC in celebration of the ADA’s 25th Anniversary. Since then, the disabled community has adopted New York City’s declaration and throughout the month amplify each others stories.
According to the world health organisation , 15% of the worlds population identifies as disabled, and 1 in 5 people in the uk are disabled.
